While this journal talks about Videos, this also applies to Art!
Don't let reposted work go unchecked!
Ever seen a video someone else clearly made be reposted with/without credit? 9 times out of 9.1 times it was posted without the artist's/animators/creator's knowledge!
With increasing popularity of videos coming around, this is bound to happen. While it looks like a minor issue:
1.) Reposted works without credit leave the creator without the credit they earned!
Not only can peeps not find more of that similar work, but the original creator gets screwed over. Potential views and
fans might never find them, and when reposted videos gets lots of views (sometimes beyond the amount of the original),
this can have a huge impact.
2.) Reposted videos (even with credit) subtract from the creator's earnings.
Lots of people who make videos get Ad Revenue from people watching their videos. However, the videos don't count
if they're going to some place else, say, a reposted video. Some videos people only watch once and are satisfied after
that, and in the case they want to rewatch it, they just go back to where they found it in the first place.
All that money that could have helped that creator make more videos is now gone, despite the right amount of peeps enjoying what they spent a long time on.
3.) Reposted videos are generally not posted with permission!
As I said before, if you see a reposted video anywhere, it was (9 times out of 9.1) without the knowledge of the original creator, and without permission. Having credit in the description does NOT make this ok!
While the original creator is getting
some people going to their channel to look for more, most people are satisfied staying at the reposted video. This still really hurts the creator.
If you see a reposted video, let the creator know/report it!
Reports from the creator are always held in the utmost priority from sites, but it doesn't hurt to try and report it
yourself! If there is no option for anyone besides the creator to report it, let other people know it was stolen. This does NOT mean to harass the poster; just inform the people watching.
